Michael Jackson to sell one million tickets – 50th show now added

Show number 50 has just been added. If Michael Jackson sells out the 20,000 capacity London O2 Arena every night of the tour (and let’s face it, it’s bound to happen) he will have sold a staggering ONE MILLION tickets. Read about it on the BBC website

Update 20:02pm: although the BBC say there are 50 shows, Ticketmaster only lists 45 at present (90 search results, as they have a page set up on their system for each ‘Thriller Hospitality Package’ and a separate page for each standard ticket package)

Update 20:21pm: a visit to the official MJ site and it all becomes clearer. The first 45 shows presale allocation sold out, and the 5 extra dates will be onsale for the first time tomorrow morning (Friday) at 7am UK Time

Here is a cut n paste of the latest news announcement

Record-breaking 45 shows sell out presale allocation!

Final 5 shows available for on sale 7am [GMT] Friday!

The ticket allotment for the presale has been sold. Michael Jackson has added five more concerts to his historic return to the stage at London’s O2 Arena, making this a half-century of shows. Tickets are available across all 50 shows for the general sale at 7am, Friday 13th March 2009.

Records have tumbled:

* The biggest audience ever to see an artist in one city.
* The most amount of people to attend a series of arena shows.
* The fastest ticket sales in history.

By the end of the 50 concerts, 1 million fans will have witnessed one of the greatest musical events in history. The figures speak for themselves – 360,000 tickets sold in 18 hours during the pre sale so far, that is 20,000 tickets per hour, 33 tickets per minute!

Michael is said to be ‘thrilled’ by the response and wanted as many fans to share the experience with him as possible. This will be the last chance to see the King of Pop in London, this really is it!

I think they mean 333 tickets per minute, not 33 :)
It would have been more impressive if they’d reported these tickets sales as 5 tickets per second! (which is also true)

Interesting to note they say 360,000 tickets have sold so far. So potentially 640,000 will be going onsale tomorrow morning. Only 36% of the tickets have gone.. hmmm. Any thoughts? Please leave your comments

Michael Jackson adds new tour dates in 2010

Michael Jackson will extend his London O2 Arena dates into 2010 !! Unbelievable as it may sound, but on top of the 30 dates that were onsale yesterday, MJ has added another 14 shows in January and February 2010

Also, here the latest news from michaeljacksonlive.com website below — interesting to note that part that says: "there will be tickets available on every show at the public on sale 7am (GMT) 13 March" and that the presale codes still work today (Thursday), and finally that people are receiving their codes as late as today

We have sold out of the presale ticket allocation for the first 30 shows: 8 July through 29 September. But here’s the really good news! Michael Jackson has agreed to add even more shows, so you still have a chance to get tickets on presale. As the new shows become available, they will appear at the bottom of the list of performance dates on this page.

We encourage you to monitor Ticketmaster.co.uk as new shows will be immediately available for purchase on their official website as the shows are added.

We know that many of you have experienced frustrating delays when attempting to purchase tickets on Wednesday and we apologise for these problems. Demand for tickets is unprecedented, so please be patient and do keep trying.

If you have not yet been successful in purchasing tickets with your code, it WILL still work.

If you have registered but you haven’t yet received a presale code – there’s still a chance you will receive one. Keep your eyes peeled and keep checking your inbox!

And remember if you miss out on the presale, there will be tickets available on every show at the public on sale 7am (GMT) 13 March.

I’m sure I can’t be the only person wondering how Michael Jackson can possibly cope with the intense demands of these 30 shows in 83 days .. a show every 2.76 days. Reports claim that Michael had a 4 hour medical with insurers to assess his fitness. I imagine that even performers on top of their game and at the peak of fitness, would strugle to fulfill such a grueling schedule without at least a few cancellations. If I had my choice of dates as a fan I would go for the opening night. Who knows if by the time September rolls around whether MJ will still able to give 100% like the opening night?
