Class aA - Beyond Entertainment, the album released during 2005 by Akoustik Anarkhy has won the Mancunian Compilation Of The Year in an online poll on the BBC Manchester website. The album features many rising stars (and thewonderwall favourites) such as Autokat, Loose Canon, Harrisons and The Longcut who you'll be hearing plenty of in 2006, and of course the already famous Nine Black Alps

"Beyond Entertainment proves one thing and that is that six years of late nights, kitchen gigs, unstoppable energy, stage invasions and indefatigable belief in a dream have all been worth it. Long may the Anarkhy continue." BBC Manchester

Autokat's new single The Driver/Television released today

Autokat - The Driver/Television

Autokat's new single The Driver/Television is released today! It's available on 7" vinyl and you can buy it online from:

www.piccadillyrecords.co.uk
www.actionrecords.co.uk
www.roughtrade.com

There's been some great reviews of the record in the press this month:

Piccadilly Records - 23 May 2005
The debut single from Manchester favourites Autokat is a cool slice of beat driven guitar psych. Despite the traditional line up of guitars, drums, bass and vocal, their varied listening habits have created an unusual sound that's hard to pigeonhole. "The Driver" is pure pounding sonic momentum which sounds genuinely exciting, while on the flip, "Television" is angular punk pop at it's finest.

City Life - 19-25 May 2005
Waiting in the shadows of The Longcut and Nine Black Alps, Autokat are now ready to capitalise on the label's new high profile. Mantra-like lyrics echo back and forth under lo-fi guitars and a steady beat. It's the kind of track that makes you want to stick your head out of the car window to let the sunshine melt your eyes and the ind cut into your eardrums (LS).

NME - 21 May 2005
In an ideal world, what should a song called 'The Driver' do? It should bloody well drive. And drive 'The Driver' does, starting out outside the same Manchester unsigned night that (we'll stop mentioning it soon) also spawned the Alps and The Longcut and tearing across the city at night, chanting a p*ssed-up-zen-like mantra ('To learn, to live, to love' as it happens) as it explores the great unknown in search of adventure with just a few Tubeway Army and Fall records for company. Addictive and sexy, despite sounding like it was recorded in a dustbin (DM).

Manchester Evening News - 06 May 2005
Sounding like the Super Furry Animals laced with large amounts of cyanide, The Driver is the freshest independent release to come out of Manchester for some time, and lyrically, sums up the Autokat story so far.

Rough Trade Records
A definite one to watch this year are autokat who are one of manchesters best kept secrets. they come on in a rip-roaring beat driven gutiar psych kinda' way and are already getting props all over. these are going to fly so be quick. the akoustik anarkhy label does it again.

Meanwhile, Autokat are playing at Wired tomorrow (Tuesday 24th May 2005) at the Manchester Night & Day. It's £5 entry and also on the bill are Rotary Ten, The Greats
and the Second Floor. View the flyer here. For more details see www.wiredmcr.co.uk

You can also catch Autokat at the Adventures In The Beetroot Field event this Friday (27th May) in Angel in London - also on the bill are British Sea Power and aA DJs
